Writer's Guidelines

Mission
IndustryWeek informs manufacturing executives about trends, technologies and management strategies that drive continuous improvement enterprise-wide.

Position
IW provides the link between the CEO suite and the plant-floor. Articles present information that answers the following question: "What do senior executives of manufacturing companies need to know about manufacturing trends, technologies and strategies to effectively run and continuously improve their companies?"

Point-of-View
IW authors write as insiders and supporters of manufacturing -- as people who believe and argue that manufacturing is an important part of the economy.

Executive-Level Audience
IW readers are senior executives of manufacturing companies -- people with the title of chairman, president, chief executive officer, executive vice president, vice president, senior vice president, chief financial officer, chief information officer, managing director and general manager.

Company Size
IW focuses editorial coverage on issues of concern to mid- to large U.S. manufacturers that operate globally, including their subsidiaries and manufacturing facilities.

Industries Served
IW serves executives who lead companies in the following industries: Aerospace, Automotive, Chemical, Consumer Durables, Consumer Packaged Goods, Industrial/Farm Equipment, Printing and Publishing, Life Sciences and Pharmaceuticals and High-Tech.

Product-Service-Vendor Coverage
IW provides information on the latest products, services and vendors of interest to our readers. Coverage is comprised of articles that discuss a particular product or service and feature a list of vendors who offer the product or service. Categories include but are not limited to information technology, manufacturing software, e-business, insurance, transportation, logistics, construction, utilities and telecommunications.

Urgency
Each IW article includes a statement ("nut graf") that answers the question: "Why does a MANUFACTURING executive NEED to read this story NOW?" The statement indicates how the reader will benefit or what they will learn by reading the article.

Future Focus
IW articles tell not only what has happened, but what we and our sources expect to happen in the future.

Global Focus
IW articles feature reporting from around the world.

Educational
IW articles are entertaining to read, yet carry with them something the executive reader can take away -- ideas about new strategies, trends, processes and technologies.

Company/Executive Profiles of Best Practices
IW publishes profiles and best practice case studies showing how companies and/or executives have capitalized on a particular trend, successfully implemented a new technology, or addressed a strategic management issue. Particular emphasis is on profiles about early adopters of the latest technologies and management approaches. Stories prominently feature the profiled company's plans for the future.

Proprietary Copy
IW does not allow anyone outside the magazine to review editorial material prior to publication.
