Fifteen winners of the 2003 Shingo Prize for Excellence in Manufacturing were announced this week. The award recognizes lean manufacturing achievements. The sole small business recipient was Affordable Interior Systems Inc., located in Hudson, Mass. The large business recipients are as follows: Autoliv ASP, Airbag Module Facility, Ogden, Utah; Autoliv ASP, Inflator Facilities, Brigham City and Ogden, Utah; Delphi Corp., Delco Electronics de Mexico, Delnosa 1-4 Operations, Reynosa, Mexico; Delphi Corp., Energy & Chassis Systems, Sistemas Electricos y Conmutadores, Juarez, Mexico; Delphi Corp., Flint Operations, Flint, Mich.; Delphi Corp., Packard Electric Systems, Plant 19, Warren, Ohio; Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co., F-117, Palmdale, Calif.; Medtronic Xomed, Jacksonville, Fla.; Merillat Industries, Atkins, Va.; Symbol Technologies Inc., Holtsville, N.Y., McAllen, Texas, and Reynosa, Mexico (counted as a single, companywide win); The HON Co., Cedartown, Ga.; TI Automotive, Caro, Mich.; TI Automotive, New Haven, Mich.; Vibracoustic North America, MCU Products Lead Center, Manchester, N.H. The Shingo Prize is administered by the College of Business at Utah State University in Logan. Manufacturers in the U.S., Canada and Mexico are eligible to apply.
