Compiled ByTravis Hessman Funai Electric Co. Ltd. and Toshiba Corp. will join forces to create a new manufacturing operation in Indonesia. With production to start in Jan. 2002, the new factory will create 20-in. color picture tubes (CPT) for use across both Funai's and Toshiba's market bases. Osaka-based Funai, a supplier of TV-VCR products in North America, expects to secure a stable supply of color picture tubes in the joint venture while Toshiba, Tokyo, says it aims for improved price competitiveness. Company officials say the plant will eventually extend production to include 21-in. flat CPTs.
