ByJohn S. McClenahen With jobs the issue that still resonates most with potential voters, lots of people -- not just President Bush's economic advisers -- are anxiously awaiting this Friday's March employment report for the U.S. Labor Department. UBS Investment Research, New York, expects the report to show 160,000 new jobs created this month in the nonfarm business sector of the American economy. That forecast number would be nearly eight times the 21,000 jobs the Bureau of Labor Statistics says were created in February and 10,000 more than the 150,000 jobs many economists contend must be created every month just to keep up with the number of people entering the workforce. Not all economists are as bullish on the jobs numbers as is UBS, however. The consensus projection for jobs created in March is 115,000.
