Compiled ByJill Jusko Not only are plant managers expected to skillfully manage their facilities' workforces, but they also have a responsibility for maintaining relationships with the community. To help facility managers better interact with that constituency, the Center for Corporate Citizenship at Boston College has introduced an on-site training course. The course, Corporate Citizenship for Facility Managers, consists of an on-site, team-oriented process developed expressly for facility management teams with operational responsibilities. It is designed to help managers navigate relationships with community leaders, public officials, residents and the media. "To meet their business goals in a cost-effective and timely fashion, facility managers must learn to make both community-sensitive operating decisions as well as contribute to the quality of life in the communities where they both live and work," says course instructor Richard F. Trabert. Trabert is former head of public affairs for the Merck Manufacturing Division. For more course information, call David Abdow, director of consulting and executive education, at 617/552-4299, or visit the Center's Web site at www.bc.edu/corporatecitizenship.
