Boeing opened a two-bay aircraft maintenance hangar on Oct. 15 at Shanghai's Pudong Airport, expanding its Chinese aviation services joint venture, the company said.

Boeing Shanghai, a tie-up with Shanghai Airlines and Shanghai Airport Authority, maintains, repairs and overhauls planes for domestic, regional and international airlines, Boeing Co. senior vice president Lou Mancini said.

"China and Asia are the global leaders in aviation growth and the newly expanded facility provides an incredible opportunity to support these expanding fleets throughout their life cycle," Mancini said.

China is the aircraft maker's largest international market, the company said.

Boeing did not give a cost for the hangar, but it was first announced when the venture was set up in 2006 with an $85 million investment.
