Commercial Metals Co. said July 1 it has completed the acquisition of coated rebar manufacturer ABC Coating Company of Texas Inc.

The purchase includes assets in Texas, Colorado and Illinois as well as a 50% stake in ABC Coating of North Carolina, a joint venture with Commercial Metals in Gastonia, N.C., and ABC Coating Tennessee of Nashville.

ABC Coating provides rebar fabrication and epoxy coated reinforcing bar to the Southwest, Midwest and Southeast. The company employs approximately 250 people. The acquired business units will become part of Commercial Metals' Americas Fabrication and Distribution segment.

The move should help Commercial Metals expand its geographical reach and offer more value-added services to customers, says  Russ Rinn, Commercial Metals executive vice president and Commercial Metals Americas president.
