Honeywell International Inc. said Wednesday that it was selected by a Chinese aircraft maker to provide power equipment for commercial jets.

Honeywell will provide auxiliary power units for Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, which is builds the C919 single-aisle commercial airliner.

Honeywell said the power equipment will reduce the energy use of the C919, lowering the cost of operation of each jet by more than $20,000 per year. The auxiliary power unit helps start the plane's engines and powers the environmental control and interior electrical systems.

The system is also in use on other narrow-body planes such as the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
