The biggest European car maker, Volkswagen, said on May 11 it had signed on a partnership in Indonesia to produce models in the coming months.

VW and the Indonesian group Indomobil plan to build VW cars in Jakarta, in particular the monospace Touran model, the company said.

Output capacity would be progressively englarged, VW forecast.

VW wants to gain market share in both Indonesia and other southeast Asian countries.

The statement quoted VW board member Christian Klinger as saying that "global market developments demonstrate the importance of timely positioning in growth regions."
