Outsourcing Procurement

Feb. 7, 2007
Personal-paper-products maker Kimberly-Clark aims to focus on what it does best.

Part of Kimberly-Clark Corp.'s competitive improvement initiative includes outsourcing its indirect procurement function. Specific procurement areas to be outsourced include maintenance, repair and operating (MRO) supplies and contract services.

The strategic move will enable the Irving, Texas-based maker of Kleenex and Huggies to better focus on core competencies.

ICG Commerce, a global procurement services provider, will provide sourcing, transactional buying and category management to support Kimberly-Clark's global indirect procurement operations.

"This move will allow us to better direct our resources on innovation, brand-building and other capabilities that will drive long-term sustainable growth," says Ian Maginnis, Kimberly-Clark's vice president of business support delivery.

Maginnis also notes that Kimberly-Clark's sourcing and supply management staff will focus their expertise on such critical business purchases as raw materials and packaging supplies.
