Food And Beverage Associations Announce Merger

Two trade associations serving the food, beverage and consumer products industries have announced plans to merge. The board of directors of the Food Products Association (FPA) and the executive committee of the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) said April 28 that they have agreed in principle to merge, effective Jan. 1, 2007.

Several additional steps still are required for the merger to be fully ratified. The GMA board will consider and vote on the agreement terms at its June meeting, followed by approval by the general membership of both organizations.

Additionally, the GMA Search Committee has recommended that FPA President and CEO Cal Dooley lead the new organization, if the merger is approved.

The merged organization would represent nearly 300 member companies.
