Raytheon
Integrated Air Defense Center (IADC) -- Andover, MA
The Integrated Air Defense Center (IADC) is a "multidiscipline" center with
4,200 employees, annual revenues of $800 million and offices for engineering,
program management, integrated supply chain, operations and other support
functions as well serving as the largest manufacturing center for Raytheon
Integrated Defense Systems.
Employees at the IADC manufacture and integrate parts for more than 50 Raytheon
programs. In addition to state-of-the-art capabilities in Circuit Card
Assembly, the center houses a 21st-century metal fabrication facility, a
foundry for the manufacture of compound semiconductor millimeter and microwave
integrated circuits, and a core competency in power system design and
manufacturing. The IADC is also the large system integrator for Patriot Missile
program and the world's most advanced radar systems.
As an industry leader in defense electronics manufacturing and systems
integration, the employees at the IADC have received numerous awards and
recognitions; Including 2009 American Society for Manufacturing Excellence in
Productivity, 2009 OSHA's Volunteer Protection Plan's Merit award, the 2008
North American Shingo Prize Silver Medallion, 2008 CMMi Level 5 Recognition,
and 2008 Navy Best Practices for Excellence awards.
What
You Will See on the Tour:
The foundation of our Continuous Improvement philosophy is connecting every
employee to the business through Total Employee Engagement (TEE). A workforce
that understands expectations, coupled with a leadership team that listens and
responds, creates a culture for TEE, which defines our employee empowerment
philosophy. This approach has been recognized five times by the Shingo Prize
Organization. During 2008 & 2009 alone, 36,000 employee-driven ideas have been
implemented. Each idea implemented not only eliminates waste in our process,
but breeds additional successes through a continuous pull of improvement ideas.
Guests participating in the tour will hear first hand from Raytheon employees
who have embraced the concepts of Total Employee Engagement (TEE) and
Operational Excellence in all areas of operations to effect continuous
improvements in set-up reduction, workplace organization, Andon and visual
controls, value stream mapping and lean cell design.
Participants will take away the enthusiasm of a workforce that has embraced
Total Employee Engagement -- with the focus by the team on implementing Lean
demonstrating our Raytheon Lean principle of 90% people and 10% tools in a
competition-driven manufacturing environment.
