IW 50 Best: Coach Targets Asian Customers With New Business Unit

Coach Inc. has a plan to make Asian customers a little more stylish. The New York-based company known for its handbags and other leather accessories, including wallets and luggage, said Oct. 13 it has established a new international retail organization with three major Asian hubs as part of its Asian-market growth strategy.

The Asian hubs will be located in Japan, Mainland China and other Asia markets.

The new Coach Retail International business unit complements Coach's existing international business, the company said.

"Coach is now well-positioned to drive our directly-operated international retail businesses while continuing to accelerate global new market development and growth through our partnerships around the world," said Frankfort in a prepared statement.

The company also made several executive moves in conjunction with the announcement of the new international retail unit.

Victor Luis has been promoted to the newly created position of president for Coach Retail International. He will be responsible for all of Coach's directly owned businesses outside North America and will report to Chairman and CEO Lew Frankfort. Luis previously served as president and CEO of Coach Japan and Coach China.

Daniel DiCicco will take over as CEO of Coach Japan. DiCicco joined Coach from Sony Music Entertainment (Asia), where he served as president of the company's Asia region.

Andre Cohen, currently president and CEO of Coach China, will assume the newly created position of president and CEO for Coach Asia with responsibility for Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia and any future directly operated businesses in the region.

Nicolas Villeger was named vice president and general manager of Coach Singapore and Malaysia.Villeger is currently CEO of Longchamp in Japan.

Jonathan Seliger will take over as president and CEO of Mainland China operations of Coach China. He joins Coach from the Richemont Group, where for the last five years he has been managing director of Alfred Dunhill in China.

The new business unit and executive appointments follow recent announcements of the company's entry into the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Ireland and Portugal.
