Quality Saved General Cable's Marion, IN Plant

May 6, 2015
The plant was slated to close, but a focus on continuous improvement and safety led to investment and expansion.

11 years ago, General Cable's plant in Marion, Indiana was about to be shut down. The company did an analysis and came close to shutting its doors.

Though the workforce was downsized and the product line streamlined, the remaining staff and management decided to embark on a series of meaningful improvements. These included Lean operations, a commitment to safety and a focus on quality.

Today, the plant's product lines are expanding and it's been recognized with a 2014 IndustryWeek Best Plant Award.
