Automotive suppliers Detroit Manufacturing Systems and Faurecia broke ground Wednesday in Toledo on a new factory to assemble and sequence components for the 2018 Jeep Wrangler.
Construction is expected to be complete by February 2017. DMS representatives said they expected to hire 140 people for the plant by summer 2017, and possibly 100 more within the plant’s first three years of operation.
"We are excited to bring good manufacturing jobs to Toledo by expanding the revitalization model that we conceived in Detroit," DMS CEO Andra Rush said in a statement. "Our goal is to create jobs and develop talent, especially in underserved communities, all while exceeding our customers’ expectations."
The Toledo plant is the second DMS facility launched by Rush Group—the parent company of DMS with 4,000 employees—and automotive interior supplier Faurecia, which has 103,000 employees globally (20,000 of them in North America). Faurecia already has a manufacturing facility in Toledo.
The 102,060 square foot plant will be located on the far northern end of Overland Industrial Park, the site of a former Jeep plant. The site is large enough for the new plant to double in size.
DMS has 1,000 employees in Detroit and manufactures upwards of 1 million vehicle instrument panels each year.
