On July 12, 2005, shareholders approved the merger between Gillette and Proctor and Gamble Co. Gillette known for its grooming products is also a leader in alkaline batteries (Duracell) as well as manual and power toothbrushes (Oral-B and Braun).
In a May 12, 2005, press release announcing 2004 financial results, James M. Kilts, CEO described the merger with P&G, "Gillette's $5 billion plus icon brands would join P&G's $16 billion plus brands to give our new combined company one of the greatest brand portfolios in history."
Kilts commented on 2004 earnings saying, " We made significant progress throughout our business last year. We achieved solid gains in all regions of the world and in all of our core categories. I am confident of our ability to continue to deliver consistent growth going forward."
