Twenty-seven of Redwood City, Calif.-based Electronic Arts (EA) titles sold more than 1 million copies in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2006, and seven sold more than 3 million copies each.
But the company, which stresses that it has more than 30 titles in development for the next generation of consoles, is putting a game face on an extremely competitive business.
Electronic Arts' net revenue was $2.95 billion in fiscal 2006, down 6% from fiscal 2005. Net income for fiscal 2006 was $236 million, compared with $504 million in fiscal 2005.
"This transition is more than a console upgrade," stressed Electronic Arts Chairman and CEO Larry Probst on May 3. "In addition to creating games for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii, EA is positioning for global leadership in line, handhelds and mobile phones," he said.
"We continue to invest ahead of revenues for long-term leadership," emphasized Warren Jenson, the company's chief financial and administrative officer.
