June 2008 -- Sales of the newly introduced iPhone in 2007 helped push revenue to $24 billion in 2007 for
computer company Apple Inc. The company sold 1.4 million iPhones for the fiscal year ending on
Sept. 27, 2007, generating $123 million in revenue. Macintosh computer revenue increased to $3
billion, or 40% over 2006, while Mac unit sales grew by 1.75 million units, or 33%. In addition,
the company realized a 62% sales increase for its portable products.
Apple attributes the growth to strong demand for its MacBook laptop computer. Desktop net sales
increased by 21%. Continuing popularity of the company's iTunes digital downloading Web site
also contributed to the increased revenue with net sales of other music related products and
services rising $611 million, or 32%, in 2007.
The company citied increasing consumer interest in the downloading of digital content and the
expansion of third-party audio and video content available on the iTunes Store as reasons for
the sales growth.
