Highlights from the 2011 IW Best Plants Conference


Atlanta, played host to the IndustryWeek 2011 Best Plants conference held April 4-6. Area manufacturing plants threw open their doors to allow conference attendees a peek inside, while some 30 sessions and three keynote speakers shared wisdom, warnings and plenty of dialog about how to improve manufacturing operations. Attendees also took time to celebrate the 2010 IndustryWeek Best Plants winners and learn from their stories as well.

These two slideshows will provide you with a taste of the event. We also hope it encourages you to attend a future IW Best Plants conference. The IW 2011 Best Plants Conference will be held April 23-25, 2012, in Indianapolis

Manufacturing Hall of Fame 2010


The 2010 inaugural class of the IndustryWeek Manufacturing Hall of Fame -- Norman Bodek, Lawrence Bossidy, Michael Dell, Donald Fites, George Koenigsaecker, Harry Moser, Dennis Pawley, W.J. 'Jerry' Sanders III, Rajan Suri and Richard Teerlink -- bring rich legacies of leadership, intellectual vigor and proven performance in both their businesses and social commitments. These 10 manufacturing giants embody the entrepreneurialism, innovation, competitiveness and customer focus that we believe was instrumental in building the American manufacturing sector into a global economic force.

Highlights From the IW Excellence In Action Plant Tours -- 2010


Reliable Automatic Sprinkler -- Liberty, SC, Philips Respironics -- New Kensington, PA, Correct Craft, Inc., Nautique -- Orlando, FL, La-Z-Boy -- Dayton, TN and New Balance Athletic Footwear Inc. -- Lawrence, MA hosted the 2010 Excellence In Action plant tours, which allow attendees the chance to see operational excellence up close and at work.

Attendees also took time to celebrate the 2009 IndustryWeek Best Plants winners and learn from their stories as well.

Highlights From The 2008 IW Best Plants Conference


Milwaukee was the host city for the IndustryWeek 2008 Best Plants Conference, which featured seven plant tours, more than 50 speakers and nearly 800 participants. The conference celebrated both the achievements of the past, particularly by honoring the 10 recipients of the 2007 IW Best Plants Awards, as well as the trailblazing work being done to create a culture of continuous improvement in facilities throughout North America.

DHL and Infor Offer Green SCO

A Vision Of Second Life


Linden Labs' "virtual world" fantasy computer game has no dragons or damsels in distress, and yet is experiencing a near-exponential growth rate in the last two years. Every day, $1.6 million dollars are changing hands, spurring many companies to open the equivalent of a major branch office in-world. Others are playing the game through sponsorships and designing products for the user community, and still others are using Second Life as a virtual conference room.
