Can skills like problem solving or adaptability be taught?

Kathy -- Problem Solving is a skill and ability. Toyota teaches a process to follow so that people learn the skill. It would be taught while actually working on a problem. People get practice through suggestion system and quality circle program and other activities.
Adaptability is a characteristic and people can learn to be more adaptable, but it is easier of you have the tendency to begin with so people were screened to ensure they had an adaptable nature prior to being hired.
