How to Convince Upper Management of the Importance of Talent Development
Bonus Q&A from IndustryWeek's Highlights from Toyota Talent webcast, featuring David Meier

Question from Kevin:
How do you convince upper management of the importance of talent development?

Answer from David Meier:
Kevin -- That can be a tough job! First I would look at key performance indicators. Shortcomings are always linked to lack of talent. Also you can find studies that support the fact that people who are learning and growing and are more satisfied, and that satisfied and engaged people are more productive.

By the way, you can start with a pilot test area and prove to them that developing people will improve results. You can also do this test without upper management approval because you do not need to spend money to do it!
