Caterpillar Profits Up 202% in 2010

On a surge in sales, heavy equipment maker Caterpillar said on Jan. 27 that profit jumped 202% in 2010.

For the whole year the company reported $2.7 billion in profit, compared to $1.8 billion in 2009, on the back of a 35% rise in sales of its heavy machinery and engines to $39.9 billion.

In the three months to December 31, the company netted $968 million, up from $232 billion a year earlier, on machinery sales of $12.1 billion.
