This webinar will feature interviews with thought leaders from associations, companies and other manufacturing organizations about the current state of U.S. manufacturing and expectations/predictions for the next two to three years. Discussion will include the challenges to be addressed, as well as policies needed to address them and including actions that manufacturing executives can take to increase their companies' and U.S. manufacturing competitiveness.

It will include a brief review/analysis of progress that has been made, since the inaugural Manufacturing Day, toward elevating manufacturing as critical to our nation's economic future in public policy and in the public image of manufacturing as a career choice.

Stephen Gold

Stephen Gold is President and Chief Executive Officer, Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation (MAPI). Previously, Gold served as senior vice president of operations for the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) where he provided management oversight of the trade association’s 50 business units, member recruitment and retention, international operations, business development, and meeting planning. In addition, he was the staff lead for the Board-level Section Affairs Committee and Strategic Initiatives Committee.

Gold has an extensive background in business-related organizations and has represented U.S. manufacturers for much of his career. Prior to his work at NEMA, Gold spent five years at the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), serving as vice president of allied associations and executive director of the Council of Manufacturing Associations. During his tenure he helped launch NAM’s Campaign for the Future of U.S. Manufacturing and served as executive director of the Coalition for the Future of U.S. Manufacturing.

James Keppler
Vice President of Integrated Supply Chain & Quality
Whirlpool Corp.


James F. Keppler is Vice President, Integrated Supply Chain and Quality for Whirlpool Corporation and is responsible for the North American manufacturing, logistics, planning, trade partner customer service, and quality functions in North America. In his previous assignment with Whirlpool, Keppler served as Vice President, Manufacturing with responsibility for Whirlpool’s 13 appliance manufacturing facilities in North America. Prior to Whirlpool, Keppler served in various manufacturing leadership roles within the automotive industry, most recently serving as Sr. Vice President, North American Operations for International Automotive Components where he was responsible for 32 manufacturing facilities located in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

A 25 year manufacturing veteran, Keppler proudly leads the execution of Whirlpool’s “Invested in America” strategy which includes the investment of our $1 billion in Whirlpool’s U.S. facilities over the past 5 years. Keppler also has accountability for the strategic development of global supply chain initiatives to drive operating excellence across the global regions at Whirlpool. .

Vice President of Technology and Manufacturing
SiGNa Chemistry


Mike Alt is vice president of Technology and Manufacturing at SiGNa Chemistry, a specialty chemical manufacturer and oil production company headquartered in NYC. Mike joined SiGNa after a 35-year career with Eastman Kodak, where he developed a strategy to transform Kodak’s 100-year-old, 1,250-acre manufacturing site into a mixed use, premier manufacturing center.

Steve Menaker leads the National Consumer & Industrial Products Industry Team at RSM US LLP. In this role, he works closely with industry and trade organizations on issues impacting the industry, provides thought leadership on critical issues, and manages the team's growth and marketing activities. The team's specialties include: Manufacturing, Automotive, Restaurant, Food & Beverage, Fashion & Home Furnishings, and Retail. He also serves as Audit Partner on numerous engagements centered on entrepreneurial and private equity owned companies, with a focus on manufacturers and distributors.
