The 1998 Grocery Manufacturers of America (GMA) Unsaleables Conference will focus on strategies to better manage and reduce the cost of unsaleables, an estimated $4 billion problem. The conference is being held in Boston July 14-16. In addition to examining case studies, workshop topics will include managing with data, salvage practices, product disposition and salvage legal issues, policy compliance and auditing, managing discontinued products, and source reduction and prevention. Speakers include experts from both the manufacturing and retail sectors and from such companies as General Mills Inc., The Clorox Co., and Procter & Gamble Co.. Ron Wise, COO of Continental Mills Inc. will address one general session. A pre-conference workshop will provide a layman's introduction to the unsaleables issue. Results from the 1998 GMA Unsaleables Survey and Benchmark Report will also be presented. To register call Sherry Ho at 202/337-9400.
