Chiquita Brands International says it will relocate its West Coast port operations from Long Beach, Calif., to the Port of Hueneme in Ventura County north of Los Angeles. The Cincinnati-based foods producer says its weekly vessel service from Guatemala, including bananas and other fresh produce, should start Nov. 1. The Port of Hueneme has committed to infrastructure improvements, Chiquita says. Additionally, the foods producer has entered into a long-term operating agreement with LauritzenCool, which specializes in transporting perishable foods and has on-dock perishable facilities. Chiquita cited cost efficiencies as the reason for the moves.
