Three months after it acquired INVISTA Resins & Fibers GmbH's polyester yarn business in Germany, Richmond, Va.-based Performance Fibers is expanding one of the acquired facilities. The company is making a multimillion-dollar investment in modernized draw winder machinery that will expand production of low-denier industrial (LDI) yarn at its Bad Hersfeld, Germany, plant by 10%. The new line is expected to start up by the middle of 2007.
LDI yarn is used in sewing threads, and coated and laminated fabrics.
"This investment keeps our state-of-the-art facility in Bad Hersfeld competitive and strengthens our position as a leading provider of LDI yarns for specialty applications," said Greg Rogowski, president and CEO of Performance Fibers on Nov. 15, when the expansion was announced.
