Manufacturing Technology Consumption Up 29%

Compared to 2005, U.S. manufacturing technology consumption in November was up 29.4%, totaling $335.02 million, according to AMTDA, the American Machine Tool Distributors' Association, and AMT, The Association For Manufacturing Technology.

"Though below the exceptional September peak, the November results continue to show strong purchases of advanced manufacturing technology equipment," said John J. Healy, AMTDA President. "This is a positive sign for the health of U.S. manufacturing industries in the years to come."

From a regional perspective, the northeast region's November total was $57.88 million -- up 53% compared to November 2005. The southern region was down 22.7% from November 2005 at $32.94 million. The Midwestern region November total was $101.66 million -- up 50.9% from November 2005, while the central region stood at $99.53 million -- 47.3% higher than November 2005. In the western region the total was $43 million -- 16.3 higher than November 2005.

The U.S. Manufacturing Technology Consumption (USMTC) report, jointly compiled by the two trade associations representing the production and distribution of manufacturing technology, provides regional and national U.S. consumption data of domestic and imported machine tools and related equipment.
