Alison O’Brien founded JWalking Designs in 2006 when she couldn’t find active apparel that fit her fitness, function and fashion needs.
Currently enrolled in the EPI program, she finds it to be ”an amazing, eye-opening experience" enabling her to learn to ask for help from her fellow entrepreneurs. She is working with the development community to explore options for future financing.
When choosing a location to manufacture her original Women's Active Skirt prototype in 2011 she sought an overseas manufacturer for lower overall costs. However she was frustrated by the lack of control, as well as unexpected and unknown delays in manufacturing, sourcing and shipping. Instead she formed a design team, fabric source and manufacturers her products in Los Angeles.
“The cost of being Made in the USA is a tad higher, but the quality is supreme and the seamless communication between my team is worth every penny,” says O’Brien.
