Acer Settles Patent Litigation With HP

June 9, 2008
Companies had filed patent infringement suits against each other

Taiwan's Acer Inc said on June 9 it has settled all on-going patent litigation with Hewlett-Packard. The two sides had signed a confidential settlement to resolve all claims asserted in three U.S. federal court lawsuits and two U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) investigations, Acer said.

Acer, the world's third largest vendor of personal computers, said all actions between the two parties will be dismissed due to the agreement. In March 2007, HP sued Acer in a U.S. court, citing the company with unauthorized use of its patented technology in a variety of desktop and laptop computers and displays sold in the U.S. In July 2007 Acer filed a counterclaim of patent infringement against HP in the U.S. and further filed complaints against HP with a U.S. court and the U.S. ITC in October 2007 alleging unauthorized use of seven Acer patents.
