Three Dead in Tennessee Factory Shooting

Sept. 23, 2016
All three people appear to have been Thomas & Betts employees.

A shooting at an Athens, Tenn., factory Thursday afternoon left three people dead, including the suspected gunman.

Police received the first reports of shots fired around 4 p.m. and arrived at the Thomas & Betts Corp. facility to find employees streaming out of the manufacturing facility, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

Police discovered two victims fatally shot inside. The suspected shooter was found dead in a bathroom, apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot.

All three people appear to have been Thomas & Betts employees.

The shooter opened fire near the front of the building before moving deeper inside, according to the Athens, Tenn., police chief.

Leadership from Thomas & Betts and ABB Ltd., which purchased the company in 2012, were on their way to the facility last night, according to statement from ABB North America.

"We ask that you join us in keeping all of our employees, our colleagues in Athens, the families of the victims, and the community of Athens in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," the statement said in part.
