Protolabs celebrates the grand opening of its new CNC machining facility in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. The advanced manufacturing facility employs digital front-end part analysis and automated toolpathing to rapidly produce custom machined components.
The Intersection of Software and Hardware
As orders come in, they are automatically, digitally, placed in queue for machining, says plant manager Soctt Pedersen.
Let's Get Visible
Rows upon rows of production equipment are neatly lined up, with good reason. Operators can quickly and easily see lights on the equipment to monitor how it is performing.
Additional highlights of the facility include a room set aside specifically for continuous improvement activities. It has whiteboard walls on which to write, as well as a large window to promote transparency about what is being worked on.
Round-the-Clock Operations for Rapid Turnaround
Protolabs can provide same-day shipping for many parts from this facility, which is a four-shift operation, says plant manager Scott Petersen. Ninety-plus percent is shipped overnight or next day.
Adjecent to the production area is a layout and production lab, which allows the workforce to experiment.
