We end the year on a somber note with the passing of Lou Gerstner, chairman and CEO of IBM from 1993 to 2002.
Gerstner, who died Saturday at age 83, took helm of IBM during a tumultuous period in the company's history and is widely credited with turning around its fortunes. In recognition of his accomplishments, IndustryWeek honored him as its 1999 Technology Leader of the Year.
