Primary aluminum production for the first quarter of 1998 was slightly ahead of aluminum production for the same period in 1997, according to figures recently released by the Aluminum Association Inc.

Production for the first three months of 1998 totaled 901,606 metric tons compared with 889,763 metric tons produced in the same period last year. Additionally, aluminum production in March 1998 was 312,408 metric tons, up from 280,002 metric tons in February and slightly above the 307,144 metric tons produced in March 1997.
