A manufacturing company is only as efficient and productive as its supplier base allows it to be. American Axle & Manufacturing (AAM) Holdings Inc., Detroit, recently presented recognition awards to seven companies for their contributions as key suppliers and partners. The award winners were Alberici Constructors, which supervised construction of AAM's world headquarters and new facility in Brazil; Anderson-Cook, which supplies spline rollers; EDS, for information technology support services; Grede Foundry, a provider of differential carriers, cases and bearing cups; Koyo Corp., a roller bearing supplier that achieved a perfect score in terms of quality, delivery and technology on AAM's supplier scorecard; U.S. Manufacturing, for cost-reduction ideas that led to significant savings; and Viking Tool, a provider of tooling commodity management. "The award winners represent an elite tier of suppliers who have provided AAM with superior support in meeting and exceeding the requirements of AAM and its OEM customers," says Abdallah F. Shanti, AAM vice president, global procurement, IT and CIO.
