Author Taps Ex-Combat Personnel For Advice

Using the results of a survey sent to more than 200 former combat leaders, and conversations with many more, author William A. Cohen has developed a set of leadership guidelines for executives. In his book, The Stuff of Heroes: The Eight Universal Laws of Leadership (1998, Longstreet Press), Cohen uses stories of successes and failures on the battlefield to formulate lessons for the modern corporate world. Cohen, a professor of marketing and leadership at California State University, Los Angeles, says that by following the eight laws, one will increase one's chance for success in business. The book includes ideas for motivating people and helping them achieve greater heights of personal and group performance, methods with which to develop oneself as a leader, and strategies to accomplish goals others think impossible.
