CargoSmart Enhances Online Features

CargoSmart Ltd., a portal provider for the ocean container transportation industry, has launched invoice and payment features, completing what it says is development of the basic set of tools for online shipment cycle transactions. The new features allow customers to search, view, sort, tabulate and print invoices, as well as to submit payment instructions to their carriers. The San Jose, Calif.-based firm says it will soon allow customers to make online payments. CargoSmart's online solution lets shippers plan, process, monitor and share their shipment information. They can plan their shipment cycle by selecting a route from CargoSmart's operational sailing schedule, which carriers update several times a week, according to the company. Once shipments are in transit, customers can monitor shipment status by either pulling information from the site or by having the information pushed to them by e-mail. They also can subscribe to up to 17 different types of milestone notifications. The CargoSmart portal was launched in October 2000.
