Companies can access a computer-aided-design network for collaborative development over the Internet on a subscription basis from Alibre Inc. In this application-server-provider-based environment, geographically dispersed teams can work together on a full-feature parametric 3-D solids modeling engine in real time. Legacy design data from disparate applications can be imported directly into the modeler, including STEP, IGES, and native formats such as ProE and Catia. Design roles and responsibilities can be assigned by a designated team leader to control access and change capability of design participants.
