Computer Associates International Inc. (CA), Islandia, N.Y., is donating $90,000 to the American Red Cross International Response Fund to benefit the victims of the Aug. 17 earthquake in northwestern Turkey. The company raised the funds by organizing a "Breakfast to Charity" week. Typically, CA employees receive a free breakfast. To raise funds for the earthquake victims, however, employees skipped breakfast for a week and donated the money that was saved. "It is our fervent hope that other companies and individuals will follow Computer Associates' example and generously open their hearts and provide monetary contributions to help the thousands of people left homeless and injured by the earthquake in Turkey," says Gary Quinn, executive vice president of the company. The Aug. 17 quake left at least 15,000 dead and devastated the city of Izmit and its surrounding provinces.
