Dell Computer Corp., Round Rock, Tex., continued its reach into offering technology services as well as hardware with the roll out of an integrated solution for B2B commerce and procurement administration over the Internet. Initially available in the U.S., the offering combines Dell PowerEdge servers based on the Intel architecture and webMethods B2B integration software to link existing ERP and procurement systems directly with Dell and other trading partners. In addition, Dell can provide e-procurement applications, PowerApp servers, and consulting services. The company says this "rapid trading partner enablement" can be implemented in a matter of days. One Dell customer, LSI Logic Corp. -- a designer and manufacturer of integrated circuits and storage systems -- relied on Dell systems to link suppliers and customers. "Dell was the first supplier to team with us in developing a comprehensive B2B process that would benefit LSI Logic, our customers, and our suppliers," says Bruce Decock, vice president and chief information officer of the Milpitas, Calif., company.
