Dell Inc. announced Nov. 9 it will increase its U.S. manufacturing presence with the addition of a new plant in North Carolina. The specific site has yet to be determined. Round Rock, Texas-based Dell said the new plant, scheduled to open in the fall of 2005, initially will employ about 700 workers, scaling up to a workforce of 1,500 within five years. The North Carolina facility will produce desktop computers for Dell's U.S. East Coast business and consumer customers. Earlier this year Dell announced that it would open a customer-contact center in Oklahoma.
