Its not just environmental groups that are using Earth Day to promote their causes on Apr. 22. Many industry organizations, notably the National Assn. of Manufacturers (NAM) are also. The Washington-based association is staging an all-day celebration, Innovation Works: Manufacturing Technology for a Better World, on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., to call attention to industrys environmental successes. Featured are dozens of exhibits and demonstrations from such companies as Ford Motor Co., Motorola Inc., Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., Lucent Technologies Inc., Corning Inc., and Toyota Motor Corp.
The day-long schedule of events also includes a morning forum on how government can support industrial innovation and an afternoon session on education and training needs for careers in manufacturing.
