Welcome to The New IndustryWeek

This year marks IW's 30th anniversary -- which makes 2000 the perfect time to announce a new IW. And what an IW it is: In this issue, we unveil new editorial content, a new logo, and a new look -- all designed to reflect our continuing mission in a new age of manufacturing. The changes emphasize more clearly than ever who we are and where we're going. Our new tagline -- "Leadership in Manufacturing" -- expresses in three words what readers have come to expect of IndustryWeek. Our logo's inclusion of IndustryWeek.com, the URL of our award-winning Web site, recognizes the increasing importance of our daily electronic content to an e-savvy audience. And our new design offers an expanded table of contents and streamlined graphics to make IW even more useful for senior executives. Visible as these changes are, however, our investments in new editorial features are even more significant:

  • This issue marks the debut of the Growing Companies Special Report, a new bimonthly section in IW dedicated to covering the unique concerns of small and midsized manufacturers. Growing Companies will explore how smaller enterprises can compete and collaborate successfully with larger competitors in an increasingly interconnected economy.
  • IW also is adding dramatically to its lineup of columnists, including:
  • Spirit at Work by Lance Secretan, who built Manpower Ltd. into a $100 million enterprise and now counsels organizations on how to bring employees' souls back into the workplace.
  • Personal Finance by former New York Times columnist Timothy Middleton, who writes with a particular appreciation for the portfolios of senior executives.
  • Value Creation by financial consultant and author Chris Malburg, an expert on positioning organizations for explosive growth in profits and shareholder value.
  • Alliances in Today's New Economy by author Larraine Segil, an experienced architect of multinational joint ventures and value-chain partnerships.
  • Just as important as our investments in IW are the enhancements we're making to IndustryWeek.com, including even more daily content and benchmarking material. Watch, too, for the announcement of new IndustryWeek.com online communities -- Web pages that provide in-depth coverage of particular interest to senior executives. Our first community focusing on value-chain management is already up and running at www.iwvaluechain.com.
  • Finally, we're pleased to announce that we're now able to share all this good news with even more subscribers -- 7.3% more, to be exact. So whether you're one of our newest readers or whether you've been with us for 30 years, welcome to the new IW. Let us know what you think.
