European Wine Subsidies Leave Bitter Taste

California wine producers don't like the character of the European Union's (EU) planned 30% increase in wine subsidies, and the U.S. might press the case in the World Trade Organization. Europe already produces three-fifths of the world's wine and imports less than 5% of the wine it consumes. And, if implemented, increased subsidies could make it more difficult for U.S. -- and Australian -- producers to market their wines in Europe.
