The Ford Motor Co. and Michael A. Guido, the mayor of Dearborn, Mich., announced this month that the company will give $5 million to its hometown for the renovation and expansion of a recreation and performing arts center. The cost of the project is estimated at $43 million. The new complex will be called the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. Plans include the construction of a 1,200-seat theater with state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems, a double gymnasium including an indoor running track, aerobic and dance studios, an aquatic center, and an indoor rock climbing wall. The city of Dearborn expects the renovations to be completed by mid-2001.
