TOKYO:Japan's automobile production in June totaled 858,095 units, down 2.5% from a year earlier, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Assn. (JAMA) said July 27. The figures, which showed the third consecutive monthly year-on-year fall, suggest that auto production remains sluggish and reflects weak final demand. The association said June auto sales in the domestic market were up 0.6% from a year earlier at 510,539 units. Auto exports were down slightly over 5.0% in June. The association released the following details on production by type of vehicle in units. Percentage change is from a year earlier: Passenger cars: 696,503 (down 1.2%) Trucks: 157,261 (down 7.9%) Buses: 4,331 (down 2.5%) JAMA is a nonprofit trade association comprised of the 13 manufacturers of passenger cars, trucks, buses, and motorcycles in Japan.
