Lucent Expands Specialty Fiber Manufacturing Operations To Meet Growing Global Demands

Compiled ByPeter Strozniak Lucent Technologies plans to expand its specialty fiber-optics-manufacturing operations in the U.S. and Denmark to meet worldwide demands. In addition to the $110 million construction project Lucent recently announced at its fiber-optic-manufacturing facility in Brondby, Denmark, the company will spend $9 million to expand its manufacturing plants in Avon, CT., and Somerset, N.J. Lucent's specialty fiber group manufactures short-distance optical fiber cable and assemblies for telecommunications, medical, and industrial use. The company plans to sell a new plastic optical fiber for short-distance applications. Ken Walker, vice president of Lucent's specialty fiber business says he sees no signs of slowing demand for specialty fiber products in the near term.
