Compiled ByDoug Bartholomew A Web-based product configurator, a buyer/supplier portal, and integrated advanced planning and scheduling are key features of the newly released ERP for Extended Systems from Mapics Inc. Formerly known as Point.Man, the new software package is designed to help midsize manufacturers expand their supply-chain capabilities. "We are looking forward to using the embedded portal and Internet functionality that will take ease of doing business to a higher level throughout our supply chain," says Karl Schutz, IT manager at Durham Manufacturing Co., Durham, Conn., a leading maker of metal and plastic packaging. Linked to the ERP system, the new buyer/supplier portal establishes an interactive, Web-based procurement process. Buyers and suppliers can view open purchase orders and receive automatic alerts via e-mail or to a cell phone. Also helping streamline the sales process is a Web-based product configurator with an intuitive user interface. "The new additions in Release 7.0 and enhanced core functions further demonstrate our commitment to delivering best value offerings to leading mid-market manufacturers," says Sandy Hofmann, general manager of high-tech manufacturing solutions at Atlanta-based Mapics.
