For the second consecutive year, Panasonic has been selected as an Energy Star Partner of the Year. Energy Star is a program created by the EPA and the U.S. Dept. of Energy. The honor, in the Home Electronics category, was given in recognition of the company's efforts to develop and market energy-efficient electronics and electrical products. More than 400 Panasonic product models now bear the Energy Star label. In terms of 1999 unit sales, nearly 99% of all Panasonic video products sold in the U.S. were Energy-Star compliant, compared with an industry average of 59%. Launched by Vice President Al Gore in 1998, the Energy Star Home Electronics program is a partnership among government and leading manufacturers to promote energy-saving electronics products.
