Compiled ByDeborah Austin The Internet and other information technologies still haven't permeated traditional supply chains, shows a recent study, "Third Party Logistics Services: Views from the Customers," by Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, the University of Tennessee, and Exel. While 73% of respondents said they're using or considering third-party logistics services, and 90% of users see need for Web-enabled supply chains, only 15% felt providers were helping fully to accomplish this. Fewer than 50% of companies surveyed have a Web site. Mangement/information technology consulting firm Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, headquartered in Paris, formed this spring combining resources of Gemini Consulting, Cap Gemini IT Services, and Ernst & Young Consulting, acquired from Ernst & Young LLP. Berkshire, UK-based Exel is a provider of logistics solutions.
