Planning to deploy an intranet within your company? International Data Corporation, an information-technology research and consulting company in Framingham, Mass., says by the year 2000 there will be 4.7 million company intranets, so you're answer most likely is yes. To help companies prepare and plan for such a project, Sun Microsystems, Palo Alto, Calif., is offering an Intranet Planning Workshop designed to help companies customize a framework for building a viable, robust, and secure intranet across the entire enterprise. Conducted at the company site, the four-day workshop "aligns people, processes, and technology to ensure that these elements are all aimed at a common goal," says Mark Bauhaus, Sun Professional Services director of Internet and Java Consulting. The strategic Intranet Action Plan document that results from this session includes intranet planning steps, pilot applications, roles and responsibilities, and policies and procedures.
